• Set up on a flat, level surface. A level base ensures the water flows evenly and the pump stays properly submerged. A prepared base of gravel or flagstone helps with stability and drainage.

• Test the pump before final assembly. Place it in a bucket of water and run it to confirm it works before you build the fountain.

• Use a proper electrical connection. Fountain pumps should be plugged into a grounded, GFCI-protected outdoor outlet.

Keeping your fountain running well

Fountains are low-effort once they're set up, but a little routine care keeps the water clear and protects the pump, which is the one part that can wear out:

• Keep the water topped up. The pump must stay fully submerged at all times. Running a pump dry is the most common way to burn it out, and it will void the pump's one-year warranty. Winter care

In any climate that freezes, even occasionally, winterizing is essential. Water that freezes and thaws inside a fountain can crack the cast stone and damage the pump. Before the first freeze, drain the fountain completely and remove the drain plugs so no water can collect. Take out the pump and any small components and store them somewhere dry. Store the fountain indoors if you can; if it has to stay outside, raise it off the ground so it can't freeze to the surface, and cover it with a breathable material tied snugly at the bottom.
